In the current era of digital technology, the movement from traditional TV viewers to Over-The-Top (OTT) platform is quite impressive.  Further, in the lockdown times during the Covid-19 pandemic propelled the growth of this segment that was already booming. The closure of movie theaters led to the exposure of OTT as the new big screen. Now for this answer to the above topic, we have to understand a few points.

What is OTT?

OTT (Over the Top) services refer to any type of streaming video or media content that allows viewers to access movies or TV shows by sending the media content directly through the Internet. An OTT platform provides an application-based service that streams content directly to the user’s device through traditional content delivery channels via the Internet.

OTT (Over the Top)

The Drawbacks of the TV systems

The traditional model of the TV system does not give flexibility to the consumer to view their favorite TV show or movies whereas OTT platforms provide this feature. An OTT platform consumer can choose their favorite TV show or cinema with the range of connected devices separately. OTT Platform support wide range modes of access regardless of platforms like mobile, smart TV, SET-top box, etc. So Internet plays a vital role in the OTT module as content of the OTT reaches viewers through it.  TV operators are facing a big challenge on how a customer will get the best viewing experience to their OTT platforms.

Why OTT platforms get more popularity?

OTT platforms

Many factors have gone into making OTT extremely popular with the public.

  • Consumer can choose different package as per their needs.
  • Premium content come into different OTT platforms
  •  Large variety modes of access:  Through Internet-connected consumers can access OTT content devices such as
  • phones (including Android, iOS, and Windows-type mobile devices),
  • smart TVs (such as Google TV),
  • set-top boxes (such as Apple TV, Fire TV),
  • gaming consoles (such as the PlayStation 4  and Xbox One),
  •  Tablets and Desktop and Laptop computers.
  • OTT provides content using data-driven approach by using they can observe how much engagement happening with respect to content.

List of some Top OTT platforms in India:

  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Netflix
  • Disney+ Hotstar
  • Voot
  • ZEE5
  • Sony LIV
  • MX Player
  • ALT Balaji

What Difficulty currently facing by the OTT?

The biggest challenge facing content delivery based on the OTT platform is distribution. For example, delivery through OTT platforms requires users to have TVs connected to the internet, which means replacing traditional TVs with newer TVs with internet.

Conclusion

However, the growing adoption of OTT viewing shows those users ultimately see it as a small price to pay for the convenience and affordability it offers in the long run, especially among younger people. As the Indian market has a bright future in the entertainment industry, the OTT platforms will be alternative for consumers if they provide good quality content.

Trifo, a Silicon Valley-based AI home robot company, is set to roll out India’s first Home Surveillance Robot Cleaner with powerful suction capability. Trifo Max series will be launched on September 30 with two models—Max and Max Pet. The series comes with a water tank and ten mopping pads, allowing users to mop the floor while sweeping.

TrifoMax

Loaded with patented TIRVS (Trifo Intelligent Robotics Vision System) technology, TrifoMax series has smart learning abilities. Its advanced AI-powered surveillance system can decide the most efficient cleaning route while detecting and maneuvering around small obstacles such as toys, cables and jewelry. The robot uses its camera to map out different rooms at home and cleans them efficiently.

TrifoMax features

“Trifo is dedicated to creating home robots that help people achieve a better balance of family, work and personal life. Apart from its powerful cleaning capability and advanced vision navigation system, the Max series is a security device that can detect movement and sound, thereby keeping homes clean and safe,” said Zhe Zhang, Founder and CEO of Trifo.

Max features a strong suction power of 3,000 Pa and its smart camera supporting home security functions. Once the Motion Detection feature is switched on, the robot cleaner can serve as a digital watchdog and inform the family about movements, people, or unusual sounds. If necessary, the built-in microphone and speaker can be used to communicate directly with the intruder or the person on site.

Max Pet is designed especially for furry friends at home. In addition to the home security function, it boasts a more powerful suction of up to 4,000 Pa and has no problem picking up pet hair and larger dirt particles. It comes with an extra pet hair extractor featuring an anti-knotting function ensuring long pet hair does not get stuck.

Through the Wi-Fi enabled Trifo Home App, Max and Max Pet can communicate with the users whether they are at home or away. The app gives real-time access to all of the different features and functions for cleaning while providing a new level of human-robot interaction from the camera.

Zhang added, “The specifications, together with a plethora of excellent smart features that it offers at a competitive price, make Max a valuable addition to the Robot Vacuum category. We’re excited to bring Max to India so that homes can live better and smarter”.

TrifoMax

Availability and Pricing

After a successful launch in the U.S., UK and European markets, Trifo Max and Max Pet will be available in India on September 30 at Flipkart and Amazon. Max is attractively priced at INR 32,900 given the superior features it offers, while Max Pet is priced at INR 36,900.

Features and Specifications

Robot Vacuum and Security System in One

Supported by the AI-powered surveillance system, the Max series can function as a security robot guarding home while the user is away. The family can set up alert notifications to trigger automatic video recording or have a real-time inspection of a possible break-in by switching on the camera. Max can watch the house even while charging, as its charging port is at the back connecting to the charging station.

Users worried about privacy issues can disable the microphone and cameras at any time. None of the videos or other information is stored in the cloud or on the server.

Powerful Cleaning

Max has an optimized vacuum fan that creates 3,000 Pa of suction. Its larger main brush and six-claw side brush reach deep into corners, while its larger dustbin and a washable primary filter are easy to maintain. Max Pet has 4,000 Pa of suction to cope with pet hair and bigger dirt particles.

Advanced Intelligent Vision

The Max series runs on TIRVS (Trifo Intelligent Robotics Vision System)—a combination of proprietary algorithms and the latest deep sensing, perception and decision-making technology. This patented feature ensures the robot always knows where it is, decides the most efficient cleaning route, avoids obstacles and creates a map of its path to repeat later cleaning trips

Trifo Home App

Users can program it remotely to schedule cleaning, whether they’re home or not. Family members can see where Max or Max Pet has cleaned, through the map it has built, as it works. The app is available at the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Innovative Human-Robot Interaction

The Max series is Alexa-enabled and the family at home can control it using voice commands, such as, “Alexa, turn on Trifo.” When out of the house, the user can speak and listen to other family members, pets, or even intruders using Max’s speaker and mic through the Trifo Home App.

…And More

Max’s 5,200 mAh battery keeps it going up to 120 minutes and features a USB port for charging other devices at home.

Facebook Aims to Build stronger ties with News Publishser

In the wake of the U.S Presidential election and ‘fake news’ scandals, Facebook has taken several corrective measures and launched new initiatives to restore its credibility as a news publishing platform. Among them, it hired former CNN journalist Campbell Brown as an industry liaison. Facebook announced a number of new efforts to support and collaborate with news organizations.

The umbrella initiative is called the Facebook Journalism Project. It will consist of ‘deeper collaboration with news organizations across the spectrum’ (presumably the ideological spectrum). The company wants to involve publishers in the creation of new products and help with subscription revenue and new business models.

As one example, Facebook says that it’s going to work with publishers on ‘new storytelling formats’:

As people’s preferences for consuming news evolve, it’s critical to work together on figuring out which new storytelling formats will help people be more informed. We want to work with partners to evolve our current formats – Live, 360, Instant Articles, etc. – to better suit their needs, and work with them on building entirely new ones. For example, we’ve heard from editors that they want to be able to present packages of stories to their most engaged readers on Facebook. We’re starting to work with several partners on how best to do this.

The company also wants to support local news and independent media. It’s going to do hackathons with news organizations, support journalism conferences and meet regularly with media companies to solicit input and feedback on all these things.

Facebook also stated that it would be developing new ‘training tools’ for journalists: ‘a series of e-learning courses on Facebook products, tools and services for journalists.’ The company is a charter member of the First Draft Partner Network, a coalition of organizations working to verify the accuracy and credibility of user-generated news content.

On the flip side, Facebook wants to train its users to become more savvy news consumers – another response to the fake news controversy:

We will work with third-party organizations on how to better understand and to promote news literacy both on and off our platform to help people in our community have the information they need to make decisions about which sources to trust.

Finally, Facebook says it will make further ongoing efforts to ‘curb news hoaxes.’ Its initial efforts were aimed at starving fake news sites of ad revenue.

Several years ago, during a revamp of the News Feed, Facebook described one aspect of what it does as the ‘best personalized newspaper.‘ And the introduction of news content into the News Feed was probably inevitable, though it has been problematic for Facebook in several ways.

These announcements are positive for news organizations, though some of it is self-serving.

As a new year gift, Facebook Live Audio will come to all of us soon. The company launched their new Live Audio feature with a few publishers and authors, before opening up. Facebook Live video streaming is quite popular now. The new feature could bring podcasts to the news feed, and provide a low-bandwidth real-time broadcasting options to publishers in low-connectivity areas.Facebook Live Audio Feature-Startagist

‘We know that sometimes publishers want to tell a story on Facebook with words and not video. Our new ‘Live Audio’ option makes it easy to go live with audio only when that’s the broadcaster’s preferred format,’ said Shirley Ip, Product Specialist, and Bhavana Radhakrishnan, Software Engineer at Facebook in a blog post.

‘We also know that publishers sometimes go live from areas that lack strong network connectivity. Though we alert the broadcaster if their signal is low, Live Audio presents another option for connecting with audiences in real time from low-connectivity areas,’ they added.

Facebook Live Audio Startagist“From interviews to book readings, we’re excited about the layer of interactivity that Live Audio brings to both the broadcaster and listener. Just as with a live video on Facebook, listeners can discover live audio content in News Feed, ask questions and leave reactions in real time during the broadcast, and easily share with their friends”, their post says.

‘We know that people often like to listen to audio while doing other things; people using Android devices will be able to continue listening to a Live Audio broadcast even if they leave the Facebook app or lock their phones, while iOS listeners will be able to continue listening as they browse other parts of Facebook’, writes Shirley and Bhavana.

When publishers create a stream, they can either use their Page’s cover image as the default Live Audio image in the News Feed, or upload a different one. Notifications will be sent to a Page’s Live subscribers, and some of their most active followers.

Broadcasts have a long limit of four hours so they should accommodate a wide range of content, such as:

  • Radio stations could broadcast their programs
  • Podcasters could find new online distribution for their episodes
  • Authors could do live readings of their books
  • Celebrities could do Q&As without worrying about how they look on camera
  • News anchors could broadcast audio from disaster zones/ areas of crisis where bandwidth may be too overloaded for video streaming
  • Musicians could broadcast concerts or studio sessions

The first publishers with access will be BBC World Service (news radio), LBC (Leading Britain’s Conversation talk radio), Harper Collins (book publisher), and authors Adam Grant (Originals, pop psychology), and Britt Bennett (fiction addressing race).

Facebook writes ‘Early next year, we plan to make this new format more broadly available to publishers and people.’ Anyhow, for average users who have something to say but are camera-shy, Live Audio feature reduces the friction to becoming a broadcaster.
